Deck and longevity

Cast aluminum does not rust and does not dent on roots. The Greenworks steel deck is adequate and will rust at the lip after a few seasons of wet clippings. For a mower kept a decade the EGO deck is the strongest argument on this page.

Cut quality

Both are single-blade mowers that cut evenly. The EGO Peak Power blade has more reserve in thick spring grass; the Greenworks slows a little and leaves visible clippings when mulching heavy growth.

Runtime and batteries

The EGO 12 Ah pack covers a half acre with reserve. A 4 Ah Greenworks pack covers a quarter acre; a 5 Ah pack a little more. Both platforms run blowers, trimmers and chainsaws; EGO runs more and is more widely sold.

Drive and handling

Touch Drive on the EGO moves the mower when the handle is pressed. The Greenworks uses a bail and speed lever with rear-wheel drive that climbs well. The Greenworks is lighter; the EGO is better planted.

Yard jobs this decides

A quarter acre on a budget: the Greenworks. A half acre, a wet or coastal climate, roots in the lawn or a decade of ownership: the EGO.

Warranty and support

On the EGO Power+, EGO covers tools with a five-year limited warranty and packs with three years. On the Greenworks 80V, Greenworks covers 80V tools with four years and packs with two. Both makers run service networks in the US and both honor the warranty only with proof of purchase, so keep the receipt with the manual. Registration takes a few minutes online and is worth doing the day the tool arrives.

Care and storage

Both are brushless battery tools and both last longest with the same habits: hose or brush debris off after each use, store packs indoors at partial charge through the winter rather than empty or full, and keep the machine out of direct sun in a shed. Neither needs oil changes, spark plugs or fuel stabilizer. A pack left at zero through a cold winter is the most common cause of a dead tool in spring on either platform.

Common owner complaints

LM2206SP owners mention price. Greenworks owners mention runtime on the kit pack and plastic trim. Both are reliable.

Which one should you buy

Buy the LM2206SP for the aluminum deck, the big pack and the broadest platform. Buy the Greenworks 80V for a normal lawn at a lower price.

Our verdict

The EGO LM2206SP takes this comparison as the better long-term mower. The Greenworks 80V 21-inch is the value pick.
