Quick verdict

Carbon steel wall racks, 33 inches wide, with two types of hook that together carry 400 pounds, 200 per rack, for ladders, shovels, rakes, brooms, hoses and cordless drills on the garage wall. Where plastic organizers hold brooms, steel racks hold the extension ladder and the wheelbarrow. The hooks move along the rack and the set mounts into studs with the supplied hardware. A loaded rack of this capacity needs sound studs and long screws.

For the Tools That Bend Plastic

A plastic broom holder is fine for brooms. The extension ladder, the wheelbarrow and a dozen steel-headed tools want steel. VEVOR’s organizer is a pair of 33 inch carbon steel racks rated to 200 pounds each with two kinds of repositionable hook, mounted to studs with the supplied hardware, for the heavy end of a garage.

This review is based on the maker’s specifications and on how steel wall racks perform in garages generally. We have not installed this rack ourselves.

Capacity

Four hundred pounds across the pair is a ladder, a barrow, a hose reel and every long tool with margin. The rack carries it; the studs and screws carry the rack. Mount into at least two studs per rack with the long screws provided, and on block use sleeve anchors rated for the load.

The Hooks

Straight hooks take tool handles and ladder rails; curved hooks take hoses, cords and anything with a loop. Both slide along the rack and lock, so the layout follows the collection. Heavy items go over the screw positions.

Layout

Mount both racks as a 66 inch run or split them: one by the door for the daily tools and one in the corner for the ladder and the barrow. Thirty-three inches fits between a window and a corner where a long board would not.

Build

Carbon steel with a coated finish. It chips if a shovel is swung at it and the chips can rust in a damp garage; touch them up. Assembly of the hooks and mounting take about an hour.

Who Should Buy It

  • Anyone with a ladder and a barrow on the floor.
  • Owners of heavy steel tools that plastic racks cannot hold.
  • Garages with short wall sections where a 33 inch rack fits.

Common Owner Complaints

Mounting into drywall and chipped finish. Studs; touch-up paint.

Technique Tips

Hang the ladder on the rack nearest the door and the barrow by its lip on a straight hook with its handles resting on the floor. Set hook spacing before hanging anything, with the heaviest items over the screws, and leave a free hook for whatever comes next. Pad straight hooks with a short length of hose where they meet a painted tool.

Care

Touch up chipped finish with enamel before damp reaches the steel, and check the mounting screws each spring. A loaded rack that has worked loose in a stud is heard before it is seen.

Alternatives to Consider

The TVKB 68 inch board for a long wall. Tetra-Teknica 4 inch hooks for a ladder and barrow alone. A slatwall system for a whole garage.

Verdict

For the heavy end of a garage, steel racks rated for the ladder and the barrow are what works, and this pair is well priced. Find the studs, hang the heavy things over the screws and the floor is clear.
