Quick verdict
Two 4 inch powder-coated steel hooks with an epoxy finish that screw into a stud and hang a ladder, a wheelbarrow by its lip, a bicycle, a hose reel or a folding table on the garage wall. Big items on the floor take the most space and are the hardest to store; a pair of hooks sized for them clears a car's width. The hooks are rated for the load when screwed into a stud with the supplied lag screws, which is the only way to mount them.
Strengths
- Hangs ladders, wheelbarrows, bikes and hose reels off the floor
- Heavy powder-coated steel with epoxy finish
- Four inch reach holds a wheelbarrow lip or a ladder rail
- Two hooks for a pair of points
- Inexpensive for the space they free
Weaknesses
- Must screw into a stud; no exception
- Four inches is too short for very thick ladder rails
- Bare steel hook can mark a painted barrow; add a rubber sleeve

The Things That Eat the Floor
A ladder, a wheelbarrow and a bike take more garage floor than every hand tool combined, and they are the things that end up blocking the car. Hooks sized for them put them on the wall. Tetra-Teknica’s are 4 inch powder-coated steel hooks with an epoxy finish, two to a pack, that lag screw into a stud and hang a ladder on its rails or a barrow by its lip.
This review is based on the maker’s specifications and on how heavy wall hooks are used for garage storage generally. We have not used these hangers ourselves.
Mounting
Find a stud. That is the whole rule. Drive the lag screw through the hook plate into the centre of the stud at the height the item needs, and the hook will carry more than anything you hang on it. In drywall alone, no anchor holds a loaded 4 inch hook for long; on a block wall, use sleeve anchors rated for the load.
Wheelbarrow
Stand the barrow on its nose against the wall and mark where the lip meets it; mount the hook just below. The lip hooks over and the handles rest on the floor, taking a car’s width of floor back. A short rubber sleeve on the hook saves the barrow’s paint.
Ladder
Two hooks spaced along the wall at the ladder’s length, at a height you can lift to, and the ladder lies on its rails. Four inches of reach takes a standard aluminium step or extension rail; very thick rails want a longer hook.
Everything Else
A bike by its wheel, a hose reel, folding chairs and a table, a kayak with a second pair. Two hooks is one big item or a pair of points for something long.
Who Should Buy It
- Anyone with a wheelbarrow or ladder on the garage floor.
- Bike owners wanting the bike up.
- People who want more floor without buying a system.
Common Owner Complaints
Hooks pulling out of drywall. They were never for drywall.
Technique Tips
Drill a pilot hole for the lag screw so it drives straight into the stud centre without splitting the wood. Mount the barrow hook high enough that the handles clear the floor by an inch when it hangs, so the tyre does not rest in a puddle. Slip a short length of garden hose over the hook before mounting to pad it.
Alternatives to Consider
Longer 6 and 8 inch hooks for thick rails and two bikes. A ladder rack with a bracket at each end. A pulley hoist for a kayak or a bike.
Verdict
Two heavy hooks in two studs free more floor than any organizer, and these are strong and cheap. Find the stud, lag it in and hang the barrow by its lip.

Tetra-Teknica GMH-01-2P 4 Inch Powder-Coated Steel Wall Mount Ladder and Wheelbarrow Hangers, 2-Pack FAQs
Mount one hook at the height of the barrow lip when the barrow stands on its nose against the wall, and hook the lip over it. The handles rest on the floor or a second hook.
Two hooks spaced to the ladder length at a comfortable height, and the ladder lies on its rails across them.
Never. The hooks go into wall studs with the lag screws. A loaded hook in drywall anchors pulls out and takes the drywall with it.
Far more than a ladder or a barrow when in a stud. The stud and the screw are the limit, not the hook.
