Quick verdict
The hose fitting that clicks into the washout port on the deck of many Cub Cadet, MTD, Troy-Bilt and Yard Machines riding mowers, so a garden hose sprays water across the underside of the running deck and the blades fling the grass out, a replacement for part 921-04041 and its equivalents. Caked grass under a deck holds moisture, rusts the steel and ruins the cut; a weekly wash through the port keeps it clear without tipping or lifting the mower.
Strengths
- Replaces lost or cracked deck wash port adapters
- Washes the underside of the deck with the mower on its wheels
- Fits a standard garden hose
- Compatible with many MTD-family riding mowers
- Cheap part that saves deck steel from rust
Weaknesses
- Only for decks fitted with a washout port
- Check the model list; MTD made many deck variants
- A wash removes loose grass, not baked-on buildup

The Little Fitting That Keeps the Deck Clean
Riding mowers from the MTD family have a washout port on the deck, a small socket that takes a hose fitting so water sprays across the underside while the blades run. The fitting gets lost or cracks, and without it the port is useless. Snow Bear’s adapter replaces part 921-04041 and the equivalent numbers for Cub Cadet, Troy-Bilt, Yard Machines and Yard Man decks.
This review is based on the listing specifications and on how deck washout ports work on riding mowers generally. We have not used this adapter ourselves.
Using It
Park on the drive, push the adapter into the port until it clicks, screw on the hose and turn the water on. Start the engine, engage the blades and let them run for a minute or two. Water sprays over the underside and the blades throw the loose grass out of the discharge. Disengage, stop the engine, run the blades again briefly to dry the deck, and unclip. Five minutes after every mow.
Why It Matters
A deck packed with wet grass holds water against the steel and the deck rusts from the inside, which is how most decks die. Packed grass also kills the airflow that lifts the grass to the blade, so the cut is ragged. A clean deck lasts and cuts well.
Fit
MTD built decks for many brands and the listing carries a long model and part number list. Match the number stamped on the old fitting or the model plate on the mower. If the deck has no port, the adapter has nothing to fit and the deck needs washing with the mower raised.
Limits
The wash shifts fresh grass. A deck already caked with hardened buildup needs a scraper first, and then weekly washing keeps it clean. Washing is best done at the end of a mow, before the grass dries.
Build
Plastic quick connect with a hose thread, the same as the original. It lives on the hose end and is lost less often if it stays there.
Who Should Buy It
- Cub Cadet, MTD and Troy-Bilt owners who lost the original.
- Anyone whose deck is rusting under packed grass.
- Owners who hate tipping a riding mower to clean it.
Common Owner Complaints
Fit on decks outside the list. Match the part number.
Alternatives to Consider
The OEM Cub Cadet adapter for a guaranteed match. A deck scraper for hardened buildup. A mower lift for a full clean once a season.
Verdict
For a deck with a washout port, this adapter restores a weekly wash that saves the steel and the cut, for the price of a coffee. Match the number, leave it on the hose and use it after every mow.

Park the mower on a hard surface, click the adapter into the deck port, connect the hose, turn the water on, start the engine and engage the blades for a minute or two. Water sprays across the underside and the blades throw the grass out of the chute.
The listing carries a long list of MTD-family models and part numbers. Match the part number on the old adapter or the model on the mower before ordering.
Wet grass packed under the deck holds moisture against the steel and rusts it through, and it spoils airflow so the cut suffers. A wash after mowing keeps the deck clean and dry.
The wash removes fresh grass. Hardened buildup needs a scraper with the mower raised, then regular washing keeps it from returning.
