Quick verdict

A 16 ounce sample of Armor AR350, a solvent-based acrylic sealer that darkens pavers and concrete to a low-gloss wet look and protects them from water, stains and fading, with a 3 inch roller to apply it. Sealing a patio is a commitment that is hard to undo, and this sample lets you see the finish on your own pavers before buying gallons. AR350 comes in three VOC formulations; check which is legal in your state. Apply thin, on clean dry pavers, and the sample covers a test patch of several square feet.

Try It on a Corner First

A wet look sealer changes a patio permanently: pavers go darker and richer, and that is either exactly what you wanted or not at all. Foundation Armor sells a 16 ounce sample of its AR350 solvent acrylic with a 3 inch roller so the decision is made on your own pavers in a corner, not on a photo. AR350 is a low-gloss wet look sealer that also protects against water, salt, oil and fading.

This review is based on the maker’s specifications and on how solvent acrylic sealers perform on pavers and concrete generally. We have not applied this product ourselves.

Using the Sample

Choose a spot behind a planter or at the edge. Clean it, let it dry for a day, and roll a thin coat. Let it dry a few hours and roll a second thin coat. Live with it for a week in sun and rain. If the colour and gloss are right, order the gallons in the same VOC version; if not, you have spent a little and learned a lot.

The Sealer

Solvent-based acrylic soaks into the surface and forms a film that darkens the paver to a wet look with low gloss. It sheds water, resists salt and oil stains and slows fading. It is the finish seen on professionally sealed paver patios. Maintenance is a thin recoat every few years.

Application Rules

Thin coats, always. Thick coats trap solvent and moisture and turn white or stay sticky. Pavers must be clean, dry and unsealed, or sealed previously with a compatible solvent acrylic. Work above 50 F, in shade if possible, with ventilation; solvent sealers have fumes.

VOC Versions

AR350 comes in 700, 350 and 50 VOC formulations because some states restrict solvent content. Check your state before ordering the full product so the sample and the project match.

Who Should Buy It

  • Anyone considering sealing a paver patio or drive.
  • Homeowners unsure whether they want the wet look.
  • People matching a sealer to an existing finish.

Common Owner Complaints

White blush from thick coats or damp pavers. Thin coats on dry stone.

Preparing the Test Patch

Clean the patch the way you would clean the whole patio: pressure wash or scrub, let it dry fully, and brush any sand joints level. A sealer applied over dirt seals the dirt in and the test tells you nothing. Mark the patch edges with tape so you can judge the colour change against bare pavers beside it, and photograph it in morning and afternoon light before deciding.

Alternatives to Consider

Armor AR500 for a higher gloss. A water-based acrylic for lower odour and easier cleanup. A penetrating silane siloxane sealer for protection without changing the look.

Verdict

Sealing is permanent and this sample makes the decision cheap and certain. Test a corner, apply thin, and order the gallons only when you like what you see.

Foundation Armor AR350 Solvent-Based Acrylic Wet Look Concrete and Paver Sealer, 16 oz Sample with Roller FAQs

Why buy a sample?

Wet look sealers darken pavers permanently and the degree varies by paver. A test patch in an inconspicuous spot shows you the real result before you commit to the whole patio.

How do I apply it?

On clean, dry, unsealed pavers above 50 F, roll a thin even coat, let it dry a few hours and apply a second thin coat. Thin coats; thick ones blush white and stay tacky.

Which VOC version?

Some states limit solvent content. Check your state rules and the listing before ordering the full-size product.

How long does it last?

Solvent acrylics typically hold their look for two to five years before a maintenance coat, depending on traffic and sun.
