Quick verdict

A 28-inch cordless two-stage snow blower that runs two EGO ARC Lithium batteries at once, with self-propelled variable-speed drive, trigger steering, a joystick-controlled 200-degree chute and heated grips, sold without batteries or charger. It suits an EGO owner with large packs already in the garage and a two or three-car driveway in a real snow climate. The caveat is the battery bill: EGO recommends two 12.0 Ah packs for the rated coverage, and buying those separately is the real price of the machine.

Who this snow blower is for

A tool-only listing is a filter. The EGO Power+ SNT2800 without batteries makes sense for one buyer: someone already running EGO’s 56V ARC Lithium platform with large packs from a mower, blower or the earlier EGO snow blowers, who now wants a 28-inch two-stage for a wide driveway without buying batteries twice. For that buyer this is the cheapest route into a full-size cordless two-stage. For anyone starting from zero, the kit versions with packs and charger are the honest comparison.

This review is based on the maker’s published specifications and on recurring owner feedback. We have not run this product ourselves.

What you get

The box holds the snow blower alone. EGO lists a 28-inch clearing width, a 21-inch intake height, a variable-speed steel auger, 16 by 5 inch snow tires, self-propelled variable-speed drive with trigger-controlled steering, a 2-in-1 electronic chute with joystick control of 200 degrees of rotation plus deflection, heated handle grips, and Peak Power, which draws from two ARC Lithium packs at once. The maker quotes a throw of up to 60 feet and coverage of a 32-car driveway in 8 inches of snow on two 12.0 Ah packs, which are sold separately. Weight, headlight and noise level are not stated in the listing.

Clearing power and throw distance

Pulling from two packs at once is what lets a battery machine run a 28-inch auger and a separate impeller at full load. EGO’s 60-foot throw is a maximum in cold dry snow with the chute aimed high; in heavy wet snow the distance drops, as it does on every two-stage, but owners of EGO’s two-stage machines describe them as holding auger speed in slush rather than bogging, which is the test that matters. The variable auger speed lets you slow the auger on a light pass and run it flat out in the plow ridge. A 21-inch intake is the same height as mid-size gas machines and takes the ridge in half-width bites.

Runtime and batteries

The 32-car driveway figure is the maker’s and it assumes 8 inches of snow and two 12.0 Ah packs, the largest EGO sells. With the 5.0 Ah or 7.5 Ah packs most EGO owners already have, the session is correspondingly shorter, and deep wet snow draws power much faster than the rated condition. Plan on about half the rated area in a bad storm, keep the packs indoors until you go out, and if the driveway is large, a second pair of packs or a pause to charge is part of the deal. The upside is that every pack bought for this machine runs the rest of the EGO range in summer.

Drive, steering and controls

Self-propelled variable-speed drive with trigger-assisted steering is where this machine beats most gas blowers at the same width, which still make you heave the handlebars to turn. The 16 by 5 inch tires are generously sized. The joystick chute moves rotation and deflection electrically from the handlebar, and the heated grips are a real comfort on a long clear. Weight is not stated; a 28-inch steel-bodied two-stage with two large packs aboard is heavy, and the drive does the work while it is running.

Living with it

There is no oil, fuel, carburetor or spark plug, which is most of the appeal. Store the batteries indoors above freezing and at a partial charge between storms, keep spare shear pins, check the scraper bar each season and rinse salt off the housing in spring. Check EGO’s current warranty terms for the tool and separately for the packs, since battery coverage is normally shorter.

Alternatives to Consider

The EGO Power+ SNT2405 is the 24-inch two-stage from the same family, smaller, lighter and cheaper, enough for a two-car driveway. The Toro 60V Power Max e24 is the main cordless two-stage rival for Toro battery owners. If you have no batteries and heavy snow, the Honda HSS928AAWD gas machine clears the same 28 inches with no runtime limit.

Verdict

Buy the EGO Power+ SNT2800 bare tool if you already own two large EGO ARC Lithium packs and want a 28-inch two-stage with the best controls in the class and no gas. Skip it if you are starting from no batteries, where a kit or a gas machine is the cheaper path, or if your storms are long and heavy enough that runtime would leave you charging halfway down the driveway.

EGO Power+ SNT2800 28-Inch Cordless Self-Propelled Two-Stage Snow Blower, Battery and Charger Not Included FAQs

Which batteries should I use?

Any two EGO ARC Lithium packs will run it. EGO bases its 32-car driveway figure on two 12.0 Ah packs; two 5.0 Ah or 7.5 Ah packs from a mower or blower will work for a shorter session. Match the pair in size so one does not run down early.

How much driveway does it really clear per charge?

EGO's figure assumes 8 inches of snow and two 12.0 Ah packs. Deep, wet or compacted snow uses far more energy per foot; owners of cordless two-stage machines typically plan on half the rated area in a heavy storm and keep the packs warm indoors until use.

Is it really equal to a gas 28-inch?

In clearing width, intake height and throw it matches a mid-size gas two-stage, and the chute, steering and heated grips are better than most gas machines at this size. Where gas still wins is unlimited runtime in a long heavy storm; here you need spare packs or a break to recharge.

Does it need any maintenance?

No oil, fuel or spark plug. Check shear pins and the scraper bar, keep the chute clear, store the batteries indoors above freezing and charge them to a partial level between storms, and wipe salt off the housing at season end.
