Quick verdict
A genuine EGO 14 inch scarifier blade with twelve staggered steel blades that replaces the spring-tine drum in the DA1400 dethatcher attachment for the EGO Multi-Head system, so the same tool that combs out thatch cuts into the surface to slice runners and roots and open a dense, matted lawn for seed. Dethatching lifts dead material; scarifying cuts into the sward. Having both drums for one attachment covers the spring renovation on one battery platform, with EGO fit and hardware in the box.
Strengths
- Converts the DA1400 dethatcher into a scarifier
- Twelve staggered steel blades slice runners and matted turf
- Genuine EGO part; fits and balances correctly
- Fourteen inch width matches the attachment
- Hardware included
Weaknesses
- DA1400 attachment only; needs the EGO Multi-Head powerhead
- Scarifying is aggressive; a thin lawn needs overseeding after
- Blades dull on sandy soil over seasons

One Attachment, Two Jobs
The EGO DA1400 dethatcher attachment combs moss and dead grass out of a lawn with a spring tine drum, and that is enough most years. A lawn that has gone to a dense mat of runners wants more: blades that cut into the surface. The ASB1400 is the genuine EGO scarifier drum, twelve staggered steel blades at 14 inches, that swaps into the DA1400 for the renovation pass.
This review is based on the maker’s specifications and on how scarifying differs from dethatching in lawn renovation generally. We have not used this blade ourselves.
Swapping the Drum
With the battery out, remove the spring tine drum from the attachment as the manual shows, fit the blade drum with the hardware in the box and reassemble. The swap takes a few minutes and goes back the same way. Owners keep both drums in the shed and use the blades once a year or less.
Scarifying
Set the attachment so the blades just touch the soil and make a pass. The blades cut slits that sever runners, lift thatch the tines missed and open the surface. A second pass at a slight angle on a very dense lawn. The result looks brutal for a fortnight and is the best seedbed a lawn gets; overseed and feed straight after and by the next month the lawn is thicker than it was.
When Not To
A thin lawn does not want scarifying; it wants feeding. Scarify dense, spongy turf on a day when the grass is growing strongly, in early autumn or spring, and never in summer heat.
Genuine Part
EGO’s drum fits the attachment, balances at speed and takes the supplied hardware. Aftermarket drums for this attachment are rare and fit is everything on a spinning drum.
Platform
It needs the EGO Multi-Head powerhead and the DA1400 attachment. For an owner already on EGO batteries that is the point: one powerhead, one battery, dethatch and scarify.
Who Should Buy It
- EGO DA1400 owners with a matted lawn.
- Anyone renovating and overseeding on the EGO platform.
- Lawn enthusiasts who want both drums.
Common Owner Complaints
A lawn that looks wrecked afterwards. That is scarifying; seed and feed, and wait a month.
Care
Hose the drum after use and let it dry before it goes back in the box, and check the blades for a bent one after a pass over a stone.
Alternatives to Consider
The spring tine drum for a normal spring pass. A dedicated electric scarifier for a non-EGO owner. A rented powered scarifier for a large lawn.
Verdict
For an EGO dethatcher that needs to cut as well as comb, the genuine scarifier drum is the part and the swap is minutes. Use it on dense turf in autumn, overseed straight after and keep the tines for ordinary years.

EGO Power+ ASB1400 14 Inch Scarifier Blade for the DA1400 Multi-Head Dethatcher Attachment FAQs
The spring tine drum combs dead grass and moss out of the surface. The scarifier blades cut vertical slits into the soil, severing runners and roots and opening a dense sward so air, water and seed get in. Dethatch most springs; scarify a matted lawn.
Remove the tine drum from the DA1400 as the manual shows, fit the blade drum with the supplied hardware, and refit. A few minutes with the tools in the box.
Set the attachment to just touch the soil for a first pass. Scarifying scalps a thin lawn; it is for dense, thatchy turf that is being renovated and overseeded.
Early autumn or spring when the grass is growing strongly and can recover, with overseeding and feed straight after.
