Quick verdict

A 35.5 inch one-piece iron probe with a bait reservoir and a release mechanism that locates a gopher or mole tunnel by feel, then drops a measured dose of bait into it without digging or leaving bait on the surface where pets and birds find it. Standing height means no kneeling at every mound. Bait is sold separately and must be a product labelled for underground placement. Probing skill is the whole method; the tool makes it quick.

Bait Where Only the Gopher Goes

Gopher bait on the surface is eaten by dogs and songbirds and ignored by gophers, which feed underground. The right place is the tunnel, and getting it there used to mean digging. A bait applicator probe finds the run and drops the dose inside in one motion. Beseetop’s is 35.5 inches of one-piece iron with a reservoir and a release, used standing.

This review is based on the listing specifications and on standard burrow baiting technique for gophers and moles. We have not used this applicator ourselves and the brand is a generic importer. Always follow the bait label.

Technique

Find a fresh mound. The main tunnel runs 6 to 12 inches deep on the side where the plug sits. Push the probe into the soil 8 to 12 inches from the plug; when the tip drops suddenly into open space, you are in the run. Trigger the release so a measured dose falls into the tunnel, withdraw the probe and press the hole closed with your heel so no light shows. Treat two or three points along the run and mark them. Check for fresh mounds a week later and repeat if needed.

Safety

Underground placement is the method regulators and extension services recommend because the bait is out of reach of pets, children and wildlife. Use only products labelled for gopher or mole burrow use, at the label rate, and wear gloves. The tool removes the excuse for surface baiting.

Build

One-piece iron does not flex in hard ground and the weight helps the probe find the tunnel. Rinse and dry it after use or it rusts; a wipe of oil over winter keeps it clean.

Moles

Moles are insectivores and ignore grain. For moles, use the worm-shaped baits sold for them, placed in the deep main run located by probing along a surface ridge. The same tool delivers them.

Who Should Buy It

  • Homeowners with gopher mounds who have pets.
  • Growers protecting beds and orchards on a larger scale than traps cover.
  • Anyone who has baited the surface and regretted it.

Common Owner Complaints

Difficulty finding the run at first and rust from wet storage. Practice and a wipe of oil.

Follow-Up

Flatten the treated mounds with a rake so new activity is obvious. Walk the area after a week; no fresh mounds means the treatment worked, fresh ones mean a missed run or a new arrival. Store the applicator empty and dry, and keep the bait in its original labelled container locked away from children and pets.

Alternatives to Consider

Traps such as the Victor Black Box avoid poison entirely. A plain probe plus a hand-dug bait placement is slower and cheaper. Gopher baskets protect individual plants without any control.

Verdict

For baiting gophers the safe way, a probe applicator is the right tool and this one is sturdy and used standing. Learn to feel the tunnel, use a labelled bait at the labelled rate and close every hole.

Beseetop One-Piece 35.5 Inch Iron Gopher and Mole Bait Applicator and Tunnel Probe FAQs

How do I use it?

Probe 8 to 12 inches from a fresh mound on the plug side until the tip drops into the tunnel, trigger the release to drop bait, withdraw and close the hole with a heel of soil so no light enters. Repeat at two or three points along the run.

What bait?

Only products labelled for underground gopher or mole use, at the label dose. Surface baits and home mixtures are unsafe and often illegal.

Why underground?

Bait in the tunnel is where the animal feeds and where dogs, cats, birds and children cannot reach it. Surface bait is the cause of most pet poisonings.

Does it work for moles?

Moles eat grubs and worms, so grain baits do little; worm-shaped mole baits placed in the run with this tool are the right type.
