About Schauer’s Hardware

The store is open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 7 pm; Saturday from 8 am to 5 pm; Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. It is a practical local stop for Forest Park gardeners who would rather get plants and know-how from people nearby than from a national chain.
What you will find
Expect the sort of stock a hardware store carries: tools and fasteners, paint and plumbing and electrical supplies, and a garden section with soil, plants, hoses, fertiliser and outdoor-power basics. What is on the benches changes with the season.
Growing conditions in Forest Park
The Midwest climate here is continental (often USDA zones 4 to 6) with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters, so timing and hardiness matter. That makes a nearby store genuinely useful, because its stock leans toward hardy perennials, sweet corn and tomatoes, spring and fall vegetables, and cold-tolerant trees and shrubs that actually do well here. It is worth asking staff about right-plant, right-place choices for your specific spot, soil and sun.
