About San Gabriel Nursery & Florist
San Gabriel Nursery & Florist is an independent, full-service nursery and florist in San Gabriel, California, at 632 South San Gabriel Boulevard in the San Gabriel Valley, east of downtown Los Angeles. As the name suggests, it pairs a working plant nursery with a florist counter, so it is a single stop for both garden plants and cut-flower arrangements. It is open most of the week from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and closed on Tuesdays.
Growing conditions in the San Gabriel Valley
San Gabriel sits in an interior Southern California valley (roughly USDA 10a, Sunset zone 21) with hot, dry summers and mild winters that rarely bring a hard frost. It is a climate that rewards heat-tolerant, drought-aware planting. Citrus and other subtropical fruit do well here, along with succulents, Mediterranean and California-native shrubs, and warm-season vegetables. Because inland summers run genuinely hot, a local nursery is useful for picking varieties and root stock suited to the valley rather than the cooler coast, and for advice on shade, mulching and efficient watering through the dry months.
What you will find
As a combined nursery and florist, the range usually covers live plants such as trees, shrubs, perennials, natives, houseplants and succulents, the soil, containers, seeds and tools that support them, and a florist service for bouquets and arrangements. The selection changes with the season and with whatever is in bloom.
