About Plant Material
Plant Material is an independent garden center and plant nursery in Los Angeles, California, at 3350 Eagle Rock Boulevard. It is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. For gardeners in and around Los Angeles it is a local, staffed alternative to the big-box aisles, the kind of place where you can see plants in person and get advice suited to your own yard.
Plants and supplies
The store generally stocks annuals and perennials, trees and shrubs, native and drought-tolerant plants, succulents and houseplants, plus the soil, compost, containers, seeds and hand tools that go with them, with the mix rotating by season.
What grows well around Los Angeles
California’s climate ranges from cool coastal fog belts to hot inland valleys, but most of the state sits in a mild Mediterranean pattern (broadly USDA zones 9 to 10) with dry summers and wet winters. That makes a nearby store genuinely useful, because its stock leans toward citrus, succulents, California natives such as ceanothus and salvia, and drought-tolerant Mediterranean plants that actually do well here. It is worth asking staff about right-plant, right-place choices for your specific spot, soil and sun.
