Mission Hills Nursery at a glance
Mission Hills Nursery is an independent garden center and plant nursery in San Diego, California, at 1525 Fort Stockton Drive. For gardeners in and around San Diego it is a local, staffed alternative to the big-box aisles, the kind of place where you can see plants in person and get advice suited to your own yard.
Growing conditions in San Diego
California’s climate ranges from cool coastal fog belts to hot inland valleys, but most of the state sits in a mild Mediterranean pattern (broadly USDA zones 9 to 10) with dry summers and wet winters. That makes a nearby store genuinely useful, because its stock leans toward citrus, succulents, California natives such as ceanothus and salvia, and drought-tolerant Mediterranean plants that actually do well here. It is worth asking staff about right-plant, right-place choices for your specific spot, soil and sun.
What the store stocks
The store generally stocks annuals and perennials, trees and shrubs, native and drought-tolerant plants, succulents and houseplants, plus the soil, compost, containers, seeds and hand tools that go with them, with the mix rotating by season.
