About Hammer & Wikan Hardware
Located at 218 North Nordic Drive in Petersburg, Alaska, Hammer & Wikan Hardware is an independent home improvement and garden store. It serves the Petersburg area as a neighbourhood option for plants and garden supplies, with staff on hand rather than a self-service warehouse.
Gardening in Petersburg
Alaska’s climate is cold with very short, long-lit summers (often USDA zones 3 to 5), which favours fast, cold-hardy growing. That makes a nearby store genuinely useful, because its stock leans toward cold-hardy vegetables, berries, and short-season perennials that make the most of long summer daylight that actually do well here. It is worth asking staff about right-plant, right-place choices for your specific spot, soil and sun.
What the store stocks
The store generally stocks building materials, tools, paint and home-improvement supplies alongside a garden department of plants, soil, mulch and outdoor equipment, with the mix rotating by season.
