About Cole Fox Hardware
Cole Fox Hardware is a locally run home improvement and garden store in San Francisco, California, found at 70 4th Street. The store is open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 6 pm; Saturday to Sunday from 9:30 am to 6 pm. It is a practical local stop for San Francisco gardeners who would rather get plants and know-how from people nearby than from a national chain.
Growing conditions in San Francisco
California’s climate ranges from cool coastal fog belts to hot inland valleys, but most of the state sits in a mild Mediterranean pattern (broadly USDA zones 9 to 10) with dry summers and wet winters. That makes a nearby store genuinely useful, because its stock leans toward citrus, succulents, California natives such as ceanothus and salvia, and drought-tolerant Mediterranean plants that actually do well here. It is worth asking staff about right-plant, right-place choices for your specific spot, soil and sun.
What you will find
As a home improvement and garden store, the range usually covers building materials, tools, paint and home-improvement supplies alongside a garden department of plants, soil, mulch and outdoor equipment. Selection is seasonal, so it shifts through the year with whatever is planting and growing best.
